I was under the impression that USB2 approach a significant fraction
of the you'd get with straight IDE, at a significant CPU penalty?  At
the very least it should be an order of magnitude faster with USB2
than USB1.

It's called ehci-hcd under 2.4 too :-) If you have a sufficiently
recent hotplug installed the module will be loaded automaticallly...
dunno if this is the case with woody though.
