Nostalga or no, why would you possibly want to inflict SCO Unix on
yourself? I have the misfortune of having to operate an OpenServer
system, and while I give it high marks for stability when not used for
much, it's a nightmare to do _anything_ with. It does have a very nice
admin interface ... when it works - it tends to break unrecoverably if
you hit a bug, and that program may never work properly again.
Change IP address? RELINK THE KERNEL AND REBOOT. It almost feels like
win9x.
The PPP system is appalling - a hideous mix of uucp and MorningStar PPP.
We need a cron job to kill and restart lpd every night because it goes
"quirky" after a while. The shell ... well, if you like original berkley
shell you'll be happy.
Skunkware to the rescue!
If you really want OpenServer, surely FreeSCO is still around. I think I
have some FreeSCO discs here somewhere, actually, so if you're desperate
give me a yell and license permitting, I'll send copies your way, along
with a Skunk '97 CD so you can actually _use_ the darn thing for
something useful. I reserve the right to call you completely insane for
wanting them, though ;-)
I learned UNIX on OpenServer, and it's just made me appreciate Linux all
the more.
