If you're using this modeline, you'll need to either change the mode
name in the modeline to "1024x768" or change the screen resolution in
the Screen section of the config file to say "1024x768 at 100" rather
than just "1024x768".

If that still doesn't work, the contents of X server log file (for
XFree86 this is /var/log/XFree86.0.log, dunno what it is for Xorg) may
be somewhat illuminating.  For each modeline that the server knows
about, it will either tell you that it's willing to use it, or why it
isn't using it.
