Yes to both.  But the processes need manual termination.

I'll try it.

This is my fstab entry:
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,noauto,ro,exec 0 0
which was automatically generated when I installed the distro.

I'm not sure about autofs.  There is no process running with that name, and nothing in the Mandrake Control Center Services page.

Also, fam is not running.
