"Signal 15" is known as SIGTERM. FYI, there is also a "mandatory" kill
signal, SIGKILL (signal 9), that will "always" work. It can often be
specified on the command line as the "-KILL" option. The only time it
tends to fail is if the Linux kernel is stuck (as can occur with disk
crashes).
