[plug] bind search domain directive not working?

Can anyone explain the below? It works on every other machine other than fry, 
which happens to have bind on it.

[root at fry root]# cat /etc/resolv.conf
search silan
search danlan
nameserver 127.0.0.1

[root at fry root]# ssh root at leela
ssh: leela: Name or service not known
[root at fry root]# nslookup leela
Server:         127.0.0.1
Address:        127.0.0.1#53

Name:   leela.silan
Address: 192.168.10.2

[root at fry root]# ssh root at leela
ssh: leela: Name or service not known
[root at fry root]# ssh root at leela.silan
root at leela.silan's password:
