[plug] eth0 problem

When booting, or restarting network in the Mandrakelinux Control
Center, I have been getting a [failed] indication for eth0.
The logs show no errors. Network access is possible, however transfer
times for similar-sized files are quite variable. Sometimes, but
not today, ifconfig reports dropped packets.
Just to be perverse, just now restarting network service worked!
I have 4 computers on the network. 2 are on, one is off completely,
and the 4th is off but I can ping it.
Any thoughts?
Jim
