Nah, he's right.
All software should be like PERL - as complex as you need it to be.
Its not hard - how many dialogs do you see with an 'Advanced' tab? If you dont
need it, dont use it. If you do need it, its there.
He's also right on the money about the majority of people belonging to a
specific minority for *something*. For me, its Xinerama support amongst other
things.
I dont use Gnome for similar reasons as Linus. Frustration with its
limitations.
That being said, if simplicity is one of their project targets, good luck to
them. Im sure that Gnome will suit some specific minority out there. Im happy
with KDE, but Im also glad there's a choice.
Not sure about Linus' 'F.I' theory though. It all depends on their specific
project goals. Just because it doesnt suit me, linus, or lots of other people,
doesnt mean its a failure.
Question of perspective really - as for Linus' outbursts, he's been married a
while now and has a few kids so he's probably feeling pretty frustrated
himself :)
