[plug] Serial console woes

Hi all,

Has anyone used the kernel's serial console capability for monitoring?
I'm having trouble with mine...

I've made up a null modem cable which seems to have all the pins wired
correctly (I don't have a breakout box to test it but the multimeter
seems to be correct), and I can specify "console=ttyS0" on the LILO
prompt (with the correct kernel option enabled), at which point there
is no output on the screen between "booting the kernel" and the
mingetty login. Presumably that part of it is OK.

What I'm not getting is the output on the other end. I'm using minicom
with standard 9600,8n1 port settings, but it never receives anything.
It's supposedly in "offline" mode at the bottom, is there anything
that needs to be done to make it connect (or think it's already
connected)?

Any ideas would be appreciated... BTW I'm only using it to log kernel
output pending an oops, so I don't need two-way operation ie. getty,
or the like.

Thanks,
Andrew
