One more thing I failed to mention - remove the ram and use only one stick of ram and try all the slots (blow any dust out of the ram slot).
I'm assuming you have the Mboard of a flat surface and can see it from the side to see if any card is slightly slanted.

great idea, except I don't get past post... or even _to_ post.. it's a
hard lock before it gets to count ram.
