The sudo password is your own login password. It's there to prevent
anybody walking up to your terminal and performing actions as root using
your sudo authorisation.

If it told you its disabled, the root password is probably initially
invalid (so no password will work). You'd have to use sudo to set the
root password. I'd recommend not doing so, personally.
