Yes, I'd say your analysis is correct. My problem is that the unqualified
names should be sent to "localhost", not the domain.

To clarify what I was saying before, I'm currently imagining the story
goes something like this:

 - sendmail thinks all unqualified addresses (e.g. 'mortimer') should
   be sent to the neophytte.mine.nu domain.
 - sendmail is not configured to deliver neophytte.mine.nu's e-mail
   locally, so it tries to send it remotely.
 - sendmail finds that the address for neophytte.mine.nu is
   202.72.154.34.
 - sendmail attempts to connect to that address, but it's your
   firewall...
