Used urpmi for the first time and ran update all during the day
and rebooted when I got home.
This has cured unwanted automount behavior. It must have been a bug?

However garnered from James Budworths post

/etc/dynamic/scripts/rawdevice.script
/etc/dynamic/scripts/part.script
/etc/dynamic/hooks/kde.hook or gnome.hook

Still create the mount points and desktop entries with some wacky names.
Which I would still like to stop.

Running mounting devices from /etc/fstab only.

Its just not clear to me how to go about it .
