I wonder though if getting exposed to earlier technologies helped us
learn the basics better.

I was in about year 10 when I first got on the internet with a 14.4
modem (as a 28.8 would have cost about $600) with my dads Cygnus
account. Had to mess around with trumpet winsock, 16bit netscape,
webcrawler/hotbot, talker, early html etc and later get myself into a
rage trying to get everything working on RH 5.2

These days 6 year olds are straight into Windows XP on their broadband
connection and google. Everything is there but they don't know where it
came from.

regards,

Chris
