Actually, you can.

# mount -t cifs //euclid/cameron /mnt
# ls -l /mnt/public_html
lrwxrwxrwx  1 cameron cameron 15 2005-01-18 11:45 /mnt/public_html -> web/public_html/

Samba has supported Unix extensions for quite a while now (as of Samba
3.0 I believe).  The Linux CIFS filesystem implementation has also
supported it for about the same time.  IIRC from one of the talks at
LCA, Mac OS X's CIFS implementation should also support it.
