Sorry to reply-to-self, but if your friend has more money than anybody
doing DTP work probably does, I'd suggest checking out Apple's 30" LCDs.
I don't know if they're suited for colour work (ie photography) but
egads, the work area...

Another option some DTP users take is using two monitors, sometimes one
big LCD and one CRT for color work.
