[plug] anyone here REALLY good with GIMP?

[Senectus .]

I'm having some issue's with selecting some text in a tiff file,
changing the colour of it and pasting it into a .bmp file..
When I select it and past it the pasted version is very pixelated and
has nasty jagged edges. This makes it look crap :-P

Perhaps my use of the magic select tool is a bit rusty?
Any suggestions?
