Have you considered pulling apart the door bell and connecting the wires
that go to the speaker in the doorbell to an amplifier that you connect
your headphones to?  This would be cheap and would avoid having to involve
your computer directly.  I don't know how easy it is to connect up on
modern door bells though.

Just an alternative to the latest greatest expensive gadgets, you know
when I was young the geeks reached for their soldering iron before their
laptop (gagh, feeling old at 28)
