If you've already done your homework and just forgot to mention it, 
please post with specifics such as:
   - Whether you've tried the suggestions you found from Google
   - Whether you've tried a different CD-ROM drive (it may be a drive fault)
   - Whether you've run the media check on the disk (if RH9 had one) or 
otherwise verified the media
   - What hardware you're using

One final note: You might want to consider installing something newer 
than RH9. Here's why:

There have been a LOT of security fixes since then, and Red Hat 9 does 
NOT have patches for many of them. It is unsafe to run in any 
internet-exposed environment, and should ideally be avoided entirely.
