I understood that HP was selling the NX5000 with Linux preinstalled; see 
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/08/04/hp_linux_laptop/ .

Other articles about it, can be found searching using "nx5000" and 
"linux", with google.

As shown in the above URL that I have cited, this was done two years 
ago.

And, Debian sarge seems to run okay on my one (although, we needed to do 
a workaround using Ubuntu 5.04, to resolve an interrupt conflict).
