And the Loki Games selection, I've found X2: The Threat quite good, as well.
You're right about the upcoming Vista/DirectX battle though, which always
brings me back to thinking that although projects like Wine & Cedega are a
positive for Linux/BSD we're still not at the root of the problem. It's
been said time and time again, but unfortunately we can't just keep
compensating for Windows Changes.
I've even heard people directly opposing Cedega/Wine before, as it doesn't
promote publishers to make Linux compatible games, as they don't need to
because the guys at Cedega will do it for them. It's a bit of a double
edged sword though. I sit on the fence on that one, I'd rather be able to
play my Windows Games, if possible.
I'd be interested to know how much revenue someone like ID or Epic have
received from making their games available for Linux and MacOS (??). You'd
think, even if just 10% of your revenue was from people who didn't use the
mainstream operating system it'd be worth pushing further development for
games that were capable of being played on many different OS's. The way I
see it is Linux is getting a lot more attention recently (thanks to
Ubuntu/SuSe etc), if your one of the only few game makers making new games
that are guaranteed to work on the users Operating System (iD), independent
of Cedega/Wine you'd generate sales anyway. I think....
Of course, I have no idea on the real statistics on that, purely
speculation.
