I've seen this with some video card combinations and especially with
opensuse 10. When you've got the option in xorg.conf to probe the video
card / monitor for res & refresh rates, what is being picked up is the
kvms reports rather than patching it through to the monitor. I think the
option is dde or something like that; I saw it in the intel video card
driver man page a while ago.
