[plug] Fedora Core 5 - Install

I have just spent the last 5 hours trying to do a default install of 
Fedora Core 5 - and at this point I am ready to say goodbye to Fedora and 
Linux altogether.

I have never had so much trouble trying to get Linux installed and 
running - even going back to the old versions of Slackware installed from 
floppy disks.

7 attempts to install each one taking a different approach and all with 
the same results.

Errors ! Errors ! Errors ! and more Errors !

Error message during boot tells me to reboot using the 'irqpoll' option - 
I edited grub.conf to add this option - system lets me logon - then gets 
to desktop and hangs when I select a menu  - requires a hard reset to get 
going again.

The next boot is then full of errors do to incorrectly unmounted drives 
from previous crash - requires fsck on every filesystem/partition - when 
the system reboots it either stops with a nice "black screen" or it hangs 
when I try to logon.

 I edited this file to add the irqpoll option for the kernel.

Current PC hardware :

P4 3.0 GHz  - 1Gb RAM - 200Gb HDD + 80Gb HDD - 128Mb ATI 
Radeon 9200 - dual boots with WinXP Pro.

NOTE : Fedora Core 4 installed and ran without any problems on my system 
until I upgraded my RAM to 1 Gb and HDD to 200Gb about four weeks ago .
Did not re-install FC4 because I was waiting to get FC5.

I may have to go back to FC4 and see if I have the "same" problems.

Does any body have any ideas as to what is going wrong with my system ??
