Perhaps he could use another email client on his Windows box at work.

I have been using a free email client for many years on Windows - it is 
called Pegasus - it works really well for me and my totally Windows 
centric family.

Download it from :

www.pmail.com

It has many options for configuration, but it quite easy to set up.
