I've settled on nothing but nForce chipsets for linux, simply because my 
mileage has been flawless.  I won't use any video except nVidia for the 
same reason.  Methinks the trouble just might be elsewhere.  I might be 
wrong, but at least /I've/ never had a moment's hassle with various 
nForce chipsets.
