I used to run all my VM's under Qemu with kqemu, but when I discovered Virtualbox I moved over to
that. Its quite a bit faster. Unlike VMware, it's kinda mostly open source (and the kernel module
has no ugly object files linked in). I use the non-opensource edition as I need USB passthrough
(which is flawless), but for most uses the OSE would be fine. I've been running it now for a good
number of months and I'm well sold on it. Smaller footprint on disk than VMware too.

They even do nice, well behaved .deb's which makes upgrades and maintenance a breeze.
