There's no doubt that there are a lot of jobs around in Perth, though the IT job market would still
be considered small, especially in the context this Linux related discussion. I do agree that
knowing people can be a key factor. I guess that from my point of view, I'm limited to jobs that are
actually advertised.

I don't have to find work straight away and would like to wait around until a decent job comes up. I
have knocked back offers because they're not what I'm looking for. While I do some Cisco and
Solaris, the job has to have a portion of Linux/OSS to make it interesting for me. The other thing
is that I don't really want to muck people around by leaving for something else after a month or
two.

Here's some of the experiences of a current job seeker (who doesn't know anyone, heh).

These are all related to different jobs:
* Interview requested at 7pm on a Friday afternoon, negotiated to 5pm, interviewer looked like he
hadn't slept for a week
* An ego search showed that the guy ran a domain name scam and was bankrupted in court (now
operating under a family members name)
* Three positive interviews with one company (including CEO). Decide that they don't want to hire
until new year.
* Well below industry salary expectations
* Interviewer keen but no interview time forthcoming *shrugs*

When you add these things to the equation, the number of jobs that are REAL and that you'd actually
want to do are minuscule.
