Tried nano?? Can't get much easier than that...
Failing that::
$ vim /etc/network/interfaces
(scroll to postion for insertion/deletion)
(press 'x' to delete current character, press 'i' to start inserting
characters from current position, then press 'Esc' to leave insert mode)
When finished:
(Press Esc to exit insert mode if in insert mode)
(Type ":" to enter command mode)
(type "wq" and press enter)
Done :P

Subject: [plug] Vim
Gentlemen,
Following a major blunder on my part I had to purchase a new hard disk.
Rebuilt a system using Debian Sarge no problems here except I have been
unable
to establish an internet connection - the connection is via Cable.
I am after infomation on how to run the edit program Vim so I can edit the
interfaces file - Sylpheed is the editor I would have used but it was not
installed.
Your assistance would be appreciated.
Thank you
Laurie
