Add "mem=800M" to your kernel parameter list (via grub or lilo)

Just beware that Linux allocates memory "from the top down" (or at least
it used to, years ago) so you may find it will try to use the faulty area
of RAM anyway because it uses the RAM between 224MB and 1024MB
