If they're only around $20 why not just have a stab at one? I think some of the cheap ebay cards have a phillips chipset that I recall reading somewhere 'might' work, but I also seem to recall that the cheap cards are greatly lacking in actual performance. The only other thing I can say is I have two avermedia cards (one analog pcmcia and one dual hybrid pci-e) and neither of them work with linux.
