I have a debian box here (etch / sid). When I wish to connect to my box
remotely, I ssh to the box and then run:

x11vnc -passwd <mypasswordforthissession> -display :0

I can then connect to my standard X session using my VNC viewer from
windows etc and supply the password that I entered above when running
the "server".

From my understanding this creates a VNC server connected to the X
display referenced. The VNC connection does not exist before this and
will terminate on disconnection of the vnc client, so if I disconnect
or get cut off somehow, the vnc server terminates (leaving my X session
intact but not accessible by anyone else..)

The password is set when I start the server and I can change it each
time I run it so I am not too worried about it being viewed even if it
is plain text.

Not sure if this is exactly what you are trying to do.

Regards,
