Thanks Leon, it appears to work OK now. It must be yet another manifestation of self-breaking & self-healing networks :) I myself didn't have the patience to call Bigpond today, too much to do. It's generally a frustrating experience (the "Pay your bill and shut up!" service).

Friend in croweater territory (South Oz) is a
bigpong customer & reported issues contacting
many US sites but none based in Oz.
After grilling several Telstra techs, she
finally got an admission that stuff was broke
