[plug] FW: How to create an external USB bootable Linux harddrive (without dual-boot)

After the last three weeks of rigmarole with my dead/overheating Dell XPS 1710 (not a cheap puppy and comes with "XPS Premium NBD support") I'm close to shooting my laptop as well.
