[plug] ssh "pause"

greetings all,

after the hard drive on my laptop went chernobyl (thankfully under warranty) I had to install debian from scratch.

I've noticed that since this fresh install, when sshing from my server to my laptop (both whilst physically sitting @ the server or sshing in to the 
server from work) there is quite a pause before the password prompt appears.  on the previous install (approximately 2 years old) it was almost 
instantaneous.

any suggestions?
