Just thought I would bring this conversation back to the iinet
freezone (from DNS and DHCP).
I did a test with another user on iinet. I got him to download a
file of a known size from my webserver, as he is running out of quota
during peak he is using very little bandwidth during peak. I then
got him to monitor his iinet quota usage (through the iinet toolbox)
to see where that download ended up.
Now, maybe i was silly in thinking that traffic from one iinet user
to another iinet user in the same state would be covered in the
'freezone' but that is not where it ended up. That traffic was
counted as peak quota NOT freezone. Correct me if I am wrong but
iinet do not pay for local traffic through an upstream provider so my
assumption would be that local traffic should be part of the
'freezone'. iiNet is starting to look a little iiFishy... Maybe its
part of the iiWorldDomination plan...
Another interesting thing that I have noticed is that I swear that my
monthly telephone line rental has gone up since I first switched to
iinet. What irritates me about this is there was a big song and
dance about iinet being charged more from telstra so they had to push
the prices up for fixed line rental. That is fine and dandy if that
be the case but, if that IS the case then why if I was to switch to a
newer plan today would I get my telephone line rental at a lower
cost? Is this just another method iinet have to keep people moving
to the newer plans?
