[plug] Invalid superblock

Hi all,

Ubuntu Intrepid:
I've been reading about how good KDE4 is, and attempted to install it.
And now the system is unreachable.

I've tried a partial install from the 8.04 cd as described on one of the
Ubuntu help sites but the installation partitioning programme does not
recognise my third hard disk where Intrepid was installed.

And gparted returns "input/output error on /dev/sdc"

The following is the output from the dumpe2fs command:

darts at Sleaty:~$ sudo dumpe2fs /dev/sdc1 | grep -i superblock

dumpe2fs 1.40.8 (13-Mar-2008)
dumpe2fs: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/sdc1
Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock.

The following results from an attempt to mount it...

darts at Sleaty:/dev$ sudo mount -t ext2 /dev/sdc /mnt

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
        dmesg | tail or so

darts at Sleaty:/dev$ dmesg | tail

enabled, doesn't support DPO or FUA

Could someone please help here? - I guess it's not essential to be able
to boot the system now, but I really need to access it.

Regards
Dave Dartnall
