Thanks for the quick replies to my query.

I will try the suggestions a little later.......

Installing Perl (e.g. Activestate) for Windows is an option - but not a 
preferred one.

I would prefer to migrate  the task to a Linux environment - but this 
would mean moving too many files backwards and forwards.

Hopefully this task will not occur all that often. (famous last words)

Using GnuUtils for DOS seemed like a quick and easy way of addressing the 
task (at the time)
