A follow on from my own reply post....
I have just remembered that quite some time ago I did look into the video 
option of Ekiga...

Freshtel did not provide the video protocol on the server, so i would have  
needed to find a VOIP provider that uses the standard sip protocol that 
also provides the video .

I will not use skype as it is a proprietary protocol and was created by 
the creators of some nasty software in the past etc.....

so, next......... any ideas......
