I had Ekiga set up to the extent that I could do a test call to the
EKIGA test node, then I did a system update, and it broke everything -
it broke gnome and everything that ran on it, and I got most of the
stuff working again, after having to remove and reinstall it, but I
could not get Ekiga working again.

Befoe that, whilst I had got Ekiga working to the extent of being able
to make a test call to the test node, I was not able to successfully
make a connection in a video call, after several attempts.

I believe that I did get Skype working, to the test call stage, but I
don't know that I know anyone who has Skype, who would want a video call
with me.
