Hello all,

First, thanks to everyone who turned up last night at the PLUG in the
Pub. We had a good time and some fresh ideas for things to do.

*Logo*
I wanted to thank Peter Taekema and Jason Nichols for their entries in
our Logo competition. we're merging their entries and starting to get
material produced and the web site updated later this week. Peter and
Jason both receive a complementary 1 year membership for their efforts.

*A/V*
The AV project is holding a workshop next Monday for anyone who wants to
help out with producing the video streams from the presentations each
month - details in the calendar. We've just received a new Audio mixer
and associated equipment to help get better results, and need bodies who
want to help film, mix, and produce. No experience is necessary, just
enthusiasm. Join the A/V mailing list and help out!

*Rusty*
A reminder we have *Rusty Russell* coming to give a presentation in
October. This is a ticketed event at $20 for members, and $50 for non
members to cover the expense of flying him here for this. Rusty is a
very well gnown figure in the Australian open Source and Linux
community, having written ipchains, iptables, lguest virtulaisation, and
also worked as the "father of Linux.Conf.Au", the national Linux/Open
Source conference. Just to be clear here, PLUG membership is $20/year,
so for $40 you can be a PLUG financial member and get a ticket to this
event. Door sales on the night will be $50 for everyone regardless -
please get your ticket *NOW *by reading
http://lists.plug.org.au/pipermail/plug/2011-June/080825.html.

*Workshop*
Nick is organising a workshop to be held at Artifactory in Osborne Park
next month on Monday 22nd August from 7:30pm. Draft details are in the
calendar on the PLUG web site. Bring along your computer to get some
help from someone who will be there to help - volunteer "experts"
welcome to come along and help out. This is a free event, but you may
want some coins to feed the drinks fridge! More details from Nick as we
get closer to this.

*Christmas/Holiday Dinner in December*
We're looking at holding a dinner on Tuesday 13th December in lieu of
our normal presentation. We'll find a restaurant and make a booking -
with more details to come. (Again, draft details in the calendar)

*Lasertag*
Tim Bowden is looking at running another Lasertag session in the next
few weeks. I'm sure a theme like the previous "editor wars" (vim versus
emacs) is likely to take place.

*Membership*
We're at 68 financial members now, up from 22 in January this year. We
have some 344 people on the PLUG mailing list so still some way to go to
convince everyone to join up, but definitely much more healthy than
where we were. The current committee is now half way through it's term,
so we'd welcome feedback from anyone on how we're doing, as well as
volunteers to help out!

OK, enough for now.... I'm sure more stuff will come up soon.... :)
