"Faerie, then, are rather varied. They perform different functions in different
cultures, and can be beneficial to humans, or rather
malicious. They are believed to be mainly kind, but if they are offended or
their resentment is somehow aroused, their revenge is
often terrible. The Fey, then, must be treated with respect and spoken of with
affection; many legends speak of leaving a bowl of
milk at the front door for Faerie to drink in order to stay on the good side of
these magical beings. When Faerie take their
revenge, it is often in the form of the sudden death of animals or family
members, the bewitching of children, or the kidnapping of
human children who are then replaced with ugly fairy babies (changelings).
Faerie are usually believed to use some form of
magic to interfere in human affairs. Brownies, for instance, use their
supernatural quickness to perform small tasks for the family
they "adopt", like stacking firewood or milking the cow. Additionally, the Fey
are believed to take great interest in human love
affairs, often to the point where they themselves become enamored of one of the
humans. This is often their main weakness.
The Fey are believed to dwell in some type of fairyland, which is both on some
alternate plane and on earth; connections
between the two worlds occur at fairy rings and fairy steads which are magical
gateways to the other world. Faerie may also
inhabit trees, hills, streams, and the like.

Oh, no. This sounds like those viruses that someone on the mailing list has been
mentioning; the kind that cause your neighbour to rape your dog; your wife to
set fire to the dunny while you are sitting in it; your children to cook and eat
each other; and the mother-in law to visit.

Hopefully, the server would be a bit more pleasant than that...
