between installing packages with rpm and installing a package using
dpkg; in general, people should not have to be subjected to using either
manually.  APT is a tool for installing/removing packages and taking
care of dependencies, etc, and in theory doesn't care whether the
underlying package format is RPM or DEB; it is comparable to Mandrake's
urpmi and God-knows-what-else in other distributions.
