As James said back in August, our shell server has been unavailable to
members for some time now.

Recently, we have re-enabled members access to the shell server. While
some things have been setup, other things are still not enabled. For
example, all member mail is still being forwarded to the members
external email account.

Details of what is currently setup and working are:
          shell server: shell.plug.org.au, members.plug.org.au
            web server: http://members.plug.org.au/~username/
       web server docs: /home/username/public_html/
         email address: username at members.plug.org.au
       SSH Fingerprint: 07:c2:d1:9a:55:03:a7:38:c2:2b:6f:a7:73:9e:9b:1d
Membership management: https://secure.plug.org.au/ugmm/

The members shell server is shameless, however it is probably better you
access it as shell.plug.org.au or members.plug.org.au. It is ipv6
enabled as well.
To enable your shell account, head to https://secure.plug.org.au/ugmm/
and ensure that your membership is current, and that your shell account
is enabled.
If you have forgotten your username or password go to
https://secure.plug.org.au/ugmm/resetpassword and reset your account.
(If you don't know what email address you are registered under, then
please email committee at plug.org.au with your current details that you
believe are recorded in the membership database.)

While in the membership management interface, you can set mail
forwarding to forward your email from username at members.plug.org.au to
another address. If you don't setup mail forwarding, then currently your
emails will go to the email address associated with your membership,
however in the future they may be delivered to your home dir on the
shell server to be accessed via IMAP/POP3 or local mail clients.

If there is something you would like installed on the shell server,
please email admins at plug.org.au, and depending on how trivial or serious
it is, we'll consult the Committee and see about enabling/installing it.

Please remember that your usage of the Shell server is a privilege of
your membership, and can be revoked at any time if your usage is deemed
to be excessive or damaging. Your activities on the shell server will be
monitored.

Also, if anyone is willing to step up to assist with running the shell
server, (i.e. regularly checking for updates and installing them,
getting the logcheck emails etc etc) then please contact me off list.

Enjoy!

Tim
