[plug] error on booting to ubuntu dvd

I've been trying to boot to Ubuntu DVD to have a look at a hdd, I select the language and the 1st option and after a period of time I get a message stating:
[482.036375] Kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to Kill init

This is all and after that I cannot do anything,

Any suggestions for getting past this screen this happens on a new disk as well.
