[plug] Weird system pause - please help!

yes, looks like a hdd problem.
syslog has a set of these entries for each pause:
ata1.00: failed command: READ FPDMA QUEUED
ata1.00: cmd 60/48:00:f0:ce:8a/00:00:4d:00:00/40 tag 0 ncq 36864 in
res 51/40:48:f0:ce:8a/00:00:4d:00:00/40 Emask 0x409 (media error) <F>
ata1.00: status: { DRDY ERR }
and the SMART diagnostics for the drive report a bad sector pending.
Damn, looks like I'm spending the weekend zerofilling and reinstalling
*sigh*.
