I'd just boot systemrescuecd, take an rsync backup onto some other
media, then zero-fill and restore backup. Re-installing is one of those
things best left to about once a decade (if that).
Heck, when I buy a new desktop or laptop, I just rsync the old one
across and alter the hardware config (if required).
