An idea you might want to consider is setting up your devices to attempt to
boot from tftp but failing back to their internal media if they don't get a
payload.

You can then add the mac address to the tftp server so it sends them a live
linux image with SSH already enabled when they are powercycled.

Which you can then use to mount the internal hard drive and fix things.
