In my experience many, if not most IOT hardware appears to be 2.4 GHz-only
at this time.
I have a Ubiquity base station on 2.4 GHz that's essentially just for IOT
hardware. It has multiple radios and effectively presents the network on
"every" channel. I'd be more specific, but I'm going from memory at the
moment.
It's physically connected to the router and linked to the internet.
