They're handy, and so much the better if we can whip up an extra
input or two with dvsource-v4l and a netbook or some other webcam.
That's just a side benefit of it being a nice modular solution, though.
If some of the modules are nice cheap secondhand camcorders with a nice
cheap Firewire PC/laptop, that's what we're aiming at.
Getting a manageable live digital feed out of some of the new
"replacement" camcorders... We'd need some kind of HDMI
capture, perhaps a http://hdfury.eu/ and a Twinpact100. (suggested here:

)
Maybe this USD$199 one would do the trick:

Then downscaling and DV encoding in software.

No, I'm happier without Reply-To: munging.
I know Gmail has pretty poor support of RFC-2369 - it doesn't provide
an easy "Reply to list" option. It does have a "Reply to all", which is
what you should use in the meantime. (and take the time to clean up the
addresses you don't want to send duplicates to)
