Hello all.
The Deal Extreme HDMI to mini HDMI cable I ordered several weeks ago to
test out with my HD Sony HDR-TG1E camera arrived today (and I also got a
tripod of my own today - Sony one with nice remote commander on the pan
handle - will show some time). The point of this was to determine if on
my HD camcorder if the HDMI would do "live" video feed.

Answer: yes.

So HDMI capture (and possible downsizing) is an option. Here are
possibly cheaper HDMI cameras, we just need to find an ExpressCard HDMI
capture (if we are to use the Vostro laptops). However, there aren't any...

But there is this: http://www.netstor.com.tw/_03/03_02.php?ODU=

The TurboBox-mini™ NA220A is a compact external PCI Express
enclosure for ease-of-adding a PCI Express Card to a laptop/notebook
or desktop computer. The portable form factor of NA220A is designed
with a PCIe x16 connector and double width space that allow users to
install their single or double width standard height PCI Express
card into the light stylish yet durable aluminum case for well
protection, and then users can simply attach the PCI Express card to
a laptop through Netstor’s ExpressCard34 and cable or to a low
profile PC through Netstor’s PCIe host card and cable package.

And the Blackmagic PCI HDMI Capture card we spoke of. Only downside -
its more kit to carry around; there are ExpressCard Firewire 400/800 cards.

So, in summary, may be possible, no showstoppers yet, but I think we
stick with Firewire right now. Perhaps in a year an ExpressCard HDMI
capture will come out???

PS: Also got a small USB sound card - but alas it only has Mic in and
headphones out. No line in, looks like very unreliable mic levels. Model
SJ-588.
